“ The Integration of the Dominican Republic in the International Trade Agreements ”

The Dominican Republic, as other countries around the world, is embarked on a historical process of integrating itself into the global economy. This process presents great opportunities and challenges for its economic and social development.

In this context, the Group of Dominican Professionals in Washington DC (GDP-WASH) is organizing a panel on this issue, in order to serve as a forum for analysis of the commercial agenda of the country to shed light on alternative scenarios and the best ways to respond in the relevant negotiation processes.

The panel members and invitees include national and international advisors on this topic, business and Government representatives of both the Dominican Republic and the U.S., as well as members of international Multilateral Organizations, Universities and Think tanks in the area.

Some of the key questions that will guide the discussion are the following:

- What are the advantages and disadvantages of the different scenarios and free trade agreements that Dominican Republic currently faces?

- What should the country do to comply with the goals/targets set in the agenda and the negotiation schedule of the Free Trade Agreement of the Americas (FTAA)?

- What importance entails to move forward in the negotiation of a free trade agreement with the United States?

- How should the country prepare itself to successfully face the challenges ahead in the process of negotiations?
